SLO Sips is your guide to the coffee shop culture of SLO.

San Luis Obispo has a thriving cafe scene; each shop with its own unique atmosphere. While franchised coffee shops are a big part of it, SLO Sips focuses on the “mom and pop” coffeehouses in the area. It’s not just about the coffee, it’s about the people and the place. It’s about the musicians they invite in, the art they hang on the walls, the baristas who make latte art, the customers who sit and read all day, the whole aromatic package.

Why “SLO Sips”?

SLO Sips is a pun from “slow sips”, meaning to stop and enjoy your coffee and the atmosphere of the cafe, rather than taking a shot of espresso and running out as quickly as possible.

My name is Katelyn Sweigart.

I’m a journalism student at Cal Poly SLO. I love writing and used to hate coffee. But now I spend way too much time in coffee houses drinking hot caffeine, writing on my laptop, studying for tests, and just people watching.
